🔵This is Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore, a nature-themed entertainment and retail complex connected to Changi Airport's terminals.
🔹Opened in April 2019, it features a distinctive glass and steel dome structure.
🔹It is known for attractions like the Rain Vortex, a massive indoor waterfall, and Canopy Park, which includes various recreational facilities.
🔹Jewel houses numerous retail and dining outlets, as well as early baggage check-in facilities for air travelers.
🔹It serves as a major hub for travel and tourism, attracting millions of visitors annually.

🔵Kami follow Tour Leader En. Sahar dan Tour Guide Kak Jun menuju ke pintu masuk Jewel.

🔵This photo shows the Polo Ralph Lauren Jewel Holiday Tree and a festive winter lodge installation at Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore, part of their Christmas celebrations.
🔹This 16-meter-tall tree marked the first time Jewel Changi Airport partnered with a fashion brand for its festive season decorations.
🔹The installation, located in the Forest Valley, also features a charming winter alpine lodge and Ralph Lauren's iconic Polo Bears.
🔹The setup is designed to be a premium destination for timeless and iconic gifts, highlighting the art of gifting during the holiday season.
🔹Visitors can enjoy the festive atmosphere and capture memorable photos against the backdrop of the iconic Rain Vortex.

🔵The main attraction here is the Rain Vortex, the world's tallest indoor waterfall, surrounded by a lush terraced forest setting.

🔵The soft water mist from the huge waterfall creates beautiful ray of lights, illuminating the interior and the cascading water.

🔹The Rain Vortex is the centerpiece of Jewel and is surrounded by a multi-story terraced forest setting known as the Shiseido Forest Valley.
🔹Designed by Moshe Safdie, Jewel combines a marketplace with an urban park, aiming to provide an uplifting experience for both visitors and local residents. Moshe Safdie also designed Marina Bay Sands.
🔹It houses over 2,000 trees and palms, and more than 10,000 shrubs, with over 120 species of plants from around the globe.

🔹Jewel's donut-shaped, with its central atrium, allows natural light to flood the interior and offers views of the surrounding landscape.

🔹The distinctive dome-shaped façade is made of glass and steel, with an oculus at the heart of its roof that showers water into the Forest Valley garden below.
🔹The innovative glass and steel roof structure spans over 200 meters at its widest point.

🔹The water in the Rain Vortex is part of a sustainable system that cleans and reuses the water for the waterfall.
🔹Jewel utilizes sustainable construction methods, including energy-efficient systems, rainwater harvesting, and natural ventilation to minimize its environmental footprint.

🔵500,000 litres of water is used for the waterfall, of which 38,000 litres fall through the oculus each minute.
🔹Rainwater will also fall through the oculus as part of the waterfall during rainy days.

🔵And of course we noticed the beautiful indoor rainbow 😃.
🔹It is naturally created by the refraction and reflection of sunlight through the water droplets of the world's tallest indoor waterfall, the Rain Vortex.
🔹The rainbow is visible near the base of the waterfall, where visitors can observe it from a viewing platform, adding to the scenic beauty of the Jewel complex.

🔹The specific conditions of the Rain Vortex, with its large volume of falling water and the presence of natural light entering the structure, create an ideal environment for this indoor rainbow to form.

🔵The Skytrain at Changi Airport, which connects Terminals 2 and 3, passes through Jewel Changi Airport.
🔹This allows passengers, including those in transit, to see the Rain Vortex and Forest Valley from the train.
🔹The Skytrain operates between 5:00 am and 2:30 am daily, with trains arriving approximately every 4 minutes.

🔹While the Skytrain runs through Jewel, there isn't a Skytrain station located inside the complex.

🔵Amazing view of the Rain Vortex's reflection seen in the Reflective Pool that surrounds the base of the waterfall.

🔵This world's tallest indoor waterfall is 40 meters or 130 feet tall.

🔵Jewel seamlessly blends nature and retail, featuring a vast indoor forest with thousands of trees and shrubs, and even repurposed trees from the former Terminal 1 carpark.
🔹The entire Jewel is 135,700 sqm floor area and it is occupying the area that used to be the outdoor car park of Terminal 1.

🔵The Shiseido Forest Valley is a major attraction at Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore.
🔹It's a five-story indoor garden featuring a diverse collection of plants and trees.
🔹The valley is part of the airport's innovative architectural design, incorporating biophilic design principles.
🔹The Forest Valley also includes the S E N S E art installation by teamLab, which uses color-changing trees to create an immersive multisensory experience.

🔵The Jewel Changi Airport's roof is a semi-inverted toroidal dome, spanning 200 meters at its longest point and 150 meters at its widest.
🔹It's a gridshell structure made of glass and steel, designed to be largely column-free on the inside.
🔹This innovative design allows for a large, open space to house the Rain Vortex and the indoor forest below.

🔵Jom kita naik ke tingkat atas.

🔵Building the Rain Vortex at Jewel Changi Airport presented several significant challenges, primarily due to its unprecedented scale and integration with existing airport infrastructure.
🔹The technical difficulties of building Jewel Changi Airport was scored a nine out of ten by the designer.
🔹A key obstacle was the presence of the Skytrain track running directly through the center of the domed structure, which required the waterfall to be off-center and the toroid (donut-shaped roof) to be asymmetrical.
🔹Additionally, maintaining a comfortable environment for both visitors and plants, given Singapore's hot and humid climate, required careful balancing of competing priorities.

🔹Integration with Existing Infrastructure: The existing Skytrain track running through the center of the building posed a major design constraint. It forced the waterfall to be off-center and the toroid to be asymmetrical.

🔹Environmental Control: Creating a comfortable environment for both people and plants within a glass-enclosed structure in a tropical climate was a significant hurdle. The team had to balance the need for sufficient sunlight for the plants with maintaining a comfortable temperature (around 23 degrees Celsius) for visitors.

🔹Scale of the Waterfall: The sheer size of the Rain Vortex, with water cascading down 7 stories, presented challenges in terms of airflow and the potential for noise and splash. Modelling the environmental impact of the waterfall using computer simulations was crucial.

🔹Complex Engineering: The design and construction of the waterfall, including the water collection and distribution system, required innovative engineering solutions. The integration of sound and light shows into the waterfall feature also added to the complexity.

🔹Maintaining Airport Operations: The construction of Jewel had to be carefully planned to minimize disruption to airport operations, particularly the Skytrain and air traffic control.

🔹Maintaining Air Quality: The design had to incorporate systems to manage air quality and prevent conditioned air from escaping when the trains passed through the building.

🔹Balancing Competing Priorities: The project required a delicate balance between creating a visually stunning attraction, ensuring the well-being of plants and people, and meeting strict environmental standards.

🔵The base of the Rain Vortex is where the water from the 40-meter (130 ft) tall indoor waterfall collects into a basement-level pool.
🔹Acrylic Funnel: An acrylic funnel at the bottom of the waterfall helps prevent splashing and insulates the sound of the cascading water.

🔵Jom kita jalan buat satu pusingan Jewel Rain Vortex ini.

🔵There's also this wonderful multi-tiered indoor waterfall.
🔹The waterfall cascades down several levels, creating a dynamic visual and auditory experience.
🔹Lush greenery and foliage line the walls surrounding the waterfall, contributing to a natural and serene ambiance within the airport complex.
🔹In the background, people can be seen observing the attraction, and the overall setting suggests a blend of nature and modern architecture.

🔹During the day, sunlight interacts with the cascading water and mist, creating a mesmerizing effect with light rays.
🔹Atmospheric Effect: The combination of natural light and the misty waterfall creates a serene and almost magical ambiance within the complex, emphasizing the natural elements integrated into the architectural design.

🔹The interior of Jewel Changi Airport, particularly around the Rain Vortex, is illuminated by natural light filtering through the domed glass roof, creating visible rays of light that interact beautifully with the cascading water.

🔹Illumination Source: The primary source of illumination is natural sunlight entering through the expansive, grid-patterned glass roof of Jewel Changi Airport.

🔹Ray Formation: As the sunlight penetrates the humid environment and interacts with the mist generated by the 40-meter tall Rain Vortex, distinct rays of light become visible, often appearing as ethereal beams or shafts of light within the space.

🔹Interaction with Water: These light rays spectacularly highlight the cascading water of the Rain Vortex, making the individual streams and droplets of water shimmer and sparkle as they descend, enhancing the visual spectacle of the world's tallest indoor waterfall.

🔵Lihat ke bawah, rupanya ada satu lagi tingkat di bawah untuk melihat air terjun ini.

🔵To prevent tank corrosion, the pH of the cascading water is maintained between 7.2 and 7.6.
🔹Additionally, a chemical that stops algae from growing in the water is automatically administered.
🔹Dust and debris are filtered out using strainers.
