KERALA INDIA - DAY 03 - PART 03 - KASAVU AALAYAM HANDLOOM - COCHIN CITY

Dalam perjalanan balik ke Kochi, kami dibawa stop sekejap ke kedai Kasavu Aajayam Handlooms. May be our driver Roji dapat commission kalau tourists yang dia bawa ke sini beli barangan di kedai ni. Kami ok je sebab teringin jugak nak tengok kedai jual sari dan kain dhoti ni. 

Entrance masuk ke kedai ni terus bawa pengunjung ke tempat tenunan kain sari dan dhoti. 

Pada kami memang menarik betul tengok mesin tenunan tradisional ni. Macam yang ada di Malaysia juga.

Tidak seperti di Malaysia, penenun di sini adalah kaum lelaki.

Generally tukang tenun adalah kebanyakkannya wanita kerana kerja menenun memerlukan ketekunan dan kesabaran yang tinggi. Masa saya ke Kelantan dan Terengganu melawat kedai songket, memang tukang tenun adalah wanita belaka. Teringat juga masa di Istanbul masa kami lawat kilang karpet, tukang tenun semuanya wanita. Di China juga.

Tapi bila tengok balik kain sari dan dhoti di sini, corak tenunannya adalah simple. Tidak seperti songket Malaysia atau permaidani Turki. May be sebab tu tukang tenun di sini boleh dibuat oleh kaum lelaki.

Terfikir juga masa ni nak rakam video kerja menenun ni dan letak di blog ni tapi tak jadi sebab sama je macam yang pernah kami tengok sebelum ni.

Next kami masuk ke ruang kedai. Tu dia... penuh dinding dengan sari dan dhoti. Siapa minat kain sari mesti happy kalau di sini. Tak ingat harganya tapi at time masa kami diberitahu we felt it was quite reasonable.

Staff di sini semua baik belaka. Once we told kami cuma nak tengok-tengok saja, mereka geleng kepala style mereka tu to acknowledge. Tak ada paksa-paksa beli. 

From handloom machine to the store.

Then kami pun teruskan perjalanan ke Kochi untuk ke hotel dan lunch di sana. Berikut adalah antara foto-foto yang sempat kami rakam semasa sepanjang perjalanan.

Agaknya ramai penduduk beragama Islam di sini.

Melalui Tharamood Koickalveli Road, Tharamood, Ward 20, Mannancherry, Kerala. Mannancherry ialah sebuah kampung di Daerah Alappuzha di Kerala, India. Pekerjaan utama penduduk kampung ini ialah membuat coir/fibre sabut kelapa sejak beberapa dekad yang lalu.

Di India, selepas buah mangga, pisang adalah tanaman buah-buahan yang kedua terpenting.

Its year round availability, affordability, varietal range, taste, nutritive and medicinal value makes it the favourite fruit among all classes of people. Pentingnya banana di sana, tiap tahun diadakan 'National Banana Festival'.

Di Kerala tuk tuk dipanggil 'auto rickshaws'. Dulu-dulu di Kerala ni selalu berlaku 'frequent squabbles, wordy duals and even fist fights' sebab pemandu tuk tuk tak nak pakai auto meter dan caj penumpang ikut suka. Untuk atasi masalah ni mereka introduce multi-platform autofare calculator that runs on smart phones. Hebat!

Touted as the first GPS-based multi-platform auto fare calculator in India, this meter runs alongside the auto meter, enabling the commuters to calculate the  distance travelled and the accurate fare using GPS. The best thing is that it does not require an internet connection or a service provider and can function even in remote areas.

Dan di tepian jalan ada orang menjual ikan dan lain-lain tangkapan laut.

Ini St. Michael's College, an initiative of the Diocese of Alleppey, affiliated to the University of Kerala.  

Selain dari diguna oleh suri rumah untuk kegunaan harian dan sebagai hiasan rumah, potteries di sini juga digunakan oleh kuil untuk upacara keagamaan. Tapi kesenian in dah mula nak pupus sebab potters yang tinggal cuma orang-orang tua dan generasi muda tidak berminat.

'Dhoti'ed men everywhere.

Ingatkan ini billboard iklan jual tudung. Kan ramai orang Islam di Kerala ni. Tapi rupanya sebuah film Malayalam bertajuk 'ഹദിയ - Hadiya - A gift of Love'. Salah satu filem musical dari Mollywood. So ada Hollywood, Bollywood (Hindi), Kollywood (Tamil) dan Mollywood (Malayam). Sebenarnya ada macam-macam *****wood. Bukan je di South Asia tapi juga Africa.  

- Hadiya carries a very beautiful message. It conveys the value of relationships to the young generation. It’s a film built on relationships and the value of family, or in other words, it deals with love and sacrifice. Hadiya means gift and this film is a gift of love.
- Hadiya also has a female-oriented theme, exploring many a challenge faced by women in contemporary times. “It tries to tell love is above all sorts of material comforts. It’s also a tribute to motherhood as the film touches upon a handful of socially relevant themes including surrogacy.
- Hadiya is woven around three individuals from different backgrounds, whose paths crisscross at one point. “Nishan plays Brahma, a youngster hailing from Kozhikode. The film is all about how he meets Sarah, a girl from Kottyam and Khadeeja, who lives in Uttar Pradesh.

Di Panvel-Kochi-Kanyakumari Highway, Chammanadu, Kodamthuruth, Kerala.

Tak tau apa benda tu. Nak kata dulang, melengkong. Mungkin periuk agaknya. Entahlah. 

Lalu kawasan Eramallour. Industri utama di sini ialah memproses sea food. Dulu kawasan ni banyak sawah tapi dan dijadikan tempat ternak udang dan bina rumah.

Yang bahaya saya noticed di tengah lebuhraya yang sibuk ada selekoh/U-turn macam ni. Dah la mereka di sini drive laju! Bahaya! Pada tahun 2017, di Kerala National Highway telah berlaku 8,993 kemalangan yang melibatkan kematian 1,309 orang. Di state State Highway pula sebanyak 7,043 kes dan 837 kematian. 

Ini masjid dan kedai di Eramalloor, Ezhupunna, yang kami stopped at semasa dalam perjalanan ke Alappuzha 2 hari lepas.

Di Kerala weddings dibuat di convention center seperti ini.

Passed by Chandiroor yang terletak di National Highway 47 antara Eramalloor dan Aroor. Memproses makanan laut adalah industri utama di sini.

Perjalanan dari Alleppey ke Kochi melalui National Highway - NH47. Lebuhraya ini bermula dari Bamanbore di Gujarat dan berakhir di Nagpur dalam negeri Maharashtra.

Kalau nak tutup tingkap bas, boleh tarik shutters down - see left photo. So kenapa bas-bas awam di Kerala tak ada tingkap kaca dan dipasang metal shutters? Sebab-sebabnya ada di bawah ni.

- Kerala is famous for strikes and buses become easy targets where stones are hurled and aimed at the buses' glass windows. So economically, shutter windows provided safety for passengers and could not be broken easily.
- Kerala is also notorious for very narrow roads and speeding vehicles, where the gap between passing vehicles could be less than a feet.
- Rains, monsoons, water leaks. Glass windows get jammed, leak and need maintenance.

Tak pasti ini iklan apa. Agaknya iklan ceramah agama. 

Industri perfileman Malayalam di sini is huge.

I had actually seen a movie lakonan actress dalam foto kanan di bawah ni di Astro, She was very good in the movie. And yes, once in a while I do watch Malayalam/Tamil movies... hehe. Very entertaining lah. I think sometimes ceritanya lagi best dari Hindustan. Like lagi real dan tak tipikal atau cliche.

Filem ni tajuknya 'Queen'.

The story starts with the inauguration of the first-ever Mechanical batch in an engineering campus. The batch consists of boys only. Later in the second year of the department, a girl joins and becomes the only girl to be a part of their batch. As the story evolves, the girl grabs all their love and attention and becomes the QUEEN of the batch.

As you can see di foto atas dan bawah ni, tak ada pun proper road construction barricades mengepung kawasan kerja.

Ada banyak high-rise residential building di Kochi ni. Dan harganya adalah sangat mahal. Di Kochi ni for 3 BHK (bedroom/hall/kitchen) harga starts from 40 lakhs ke atas.
