SOUTH KOREA - SOUTH JEJU - CHEONJIYEON WATERFALL

Assalamualaikum

🔵Kami passed by Soegwipo Port.

🔵This is Yeonhee-chun stream. It is the source of the Cheonjiyeon Waterfall.

🔵Kelihatan beberapa ekor itik.

🔵Itik-itik mallards, jantan dan betina. They are a common and dominant waterfowl species during winter in Korea, including Jeju Island.

🔵EV charging station.

🔵Banner pemberitahuan masuk percuma ke Cheonjiyeon Waterfall sepanjang "Jeju National Heritage Visit Year Proclamation Week".

🔵However, the walk is very pleasant and passes through beautiful green lush landscapes and with views of refreshing and calming stream. Juga tiada jalan mendaki. All the way laluannya rata.

🔵On the right of the stone path there is a viewing area with wooden railings, offering a vantage point over a calm body of water.
🔹The Yeonhee-chun stream reflects the surrounding greenery and contains a small, vegetated island.
🔹The background is dominated by a lush, subtropical forest covering a hill, indicating the diverse plant life of the area.

Jom kita baca.

🔵It is about Korean traditional raft called Teu.

🔵Here's the info.

🔵And this is a "Teu".
🔹"Teu" in the context of South Korean cultural heritage refers to a traditional raft, often associated with specific locations and activities.
🔹It's not a widely used term, but it's important to understand what a "Teu" is and where it's found to appreciate its cultural significance.
🔹A Teu is a type of raft, a flat structure used for transportation or recreation on water.
🔹It's likely made of logs or other buoyant materials lashed together.
🔹In some regions, rafts may be used for commercial purposes like fishing or transporting goods.

🔵A Teu (테우) is a traditional Korean raft, also spelled as "teu," that can be found in certain tourist areas, particularly in Jeju Island. These rafts are usually pulled through the water by ropes, allowing visitors to enjoy scenic views of the surrounding areas.
🔹Purpose: Teu rafts are primarily used for tourism, providing visitors with a unique way to experience the water and surrounding scenery.
🔹Method of Propulsion: The rafts are not motorized; instead, they are pulled through the water by ropes, allowing for a more relaxed and immersive experience.
🔹Location: While Teu rafts are associated with certain tourist attractions, like Soesokkak Estuary, they are not a widespread mode of transportation in modern Korea.

🔵Peta Cheonjiyeon Waterfall dan kawasan di sekitarnya.
🔹This is a Cultural Heritage Protection Area.
🔹Do not harm the protected facilities, plant or collect plants, or catch or release animals.
🔹Violations shall be punished under the Cultural Properties Protection Law.

🔵Pemandangan Yeonhee-chun stream.

🔵Banyaknya itik-itik mallards.

🔵Dah macam nak buat wildlife phtography pulak... hihi 😄.

🔵A small, vegetated island in the middle of the stream.

🔵This is a Common Sandpiper.

🔵Common Sandpipers are typically found near freshwater bodies such as fast-moving rivers, lakes, lochs, and reservoirs, and can also be seen on estuaries during migration.

🔵Common Sandpipers are a common migratory shorebird species found in various parts of the world, including South Korea.
🔹Common Sandpipers were spotted at Udo Island and one of the documented bird species on the island.
🔹Additionally, Common Sandpipers are also observed in a wetland habitat on the southwest coast of Jeju Island.

🔵Fascinating facts about Dolhareubang statues:
🔹Before modern times, it was called Wooseokmok and Ongjungseok.
🔹One shoulder raised higher than the other.
🔹Each Dolhareubang has a distinct expression, ranging from stern and dignified to humorous.
🔹Dolhareubang come in various sizes and have unique features, such as large eyes, closed mouths, and some even have big ears, reflecting the different areas they originated from.
🔹The largest Dolhareubang is said to be twice the height of a person.
🔹Women sometimes rub specific parts of the statue (like the nose for a boy or the ears for a girl) to wish for a specific gender.
🔹Has its own individual hat styles and postures.
🔹If the Dolhareubang's left hand is above the right, it symbolizes a soldier/warrior. Conversely, if the right hand is higher, it means a person in the position of a civil servant/writer, and if the positions of the two hands are similar, it means a commoner.

🔵Plak-plak pengisytiharan/perakuan MAB, Global Geopark Network dan New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Jeju's natural beauty, including Hallasan (the highest mountain in South Korea), volcanic formations, lava tubes, waterfalls, and beaches, makes it a popular destination.

This beautiful forest is Jeju Island's designated·preserved as Natural Monument No. 379.

🔵The subtropical forest surrounding Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is a lush and diverse ecosystem, home to various unique plants and animals. The walk to the waterfall itself is through a trail lined with subtropical vegetation, including trees, plants, and other flora that are native to Jeju Island.

🔵Here are some key features of the subtropical forest:
🟢Flora:
🔹Diverse Plant Life The forest is rich in various plant species, including brambles, Siebold's chinquapin (a type of chestnut), Shiny xylosma, and camellias.
🔹Specialized Plants: Rare plants like the skeleton fork fern (Psilotum nudum) and solipnan (솔잎난) are also found in the area.
🔹Dampalsu Trees: Elaeocarpus trees, known as "Dampalsu" in Korean, are designated as a Natural Monument and are a notable part of the forest.
🔹Subtropical Trees: The forest features subtropical trees that provide a dense canopy, creating a shaded and humid environment.

🟢Fauna:
🔹Giant Mottled Eels: The pond at the base of the Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is known for being a habitat for Giant Mottled Eels (Anguilla marmorata).
🔹Diverse Birdlife: The forest also supports a variety of bird species, as well as insects and other smaller animals.

🔹A pathway made of black volcanic rocks winding through a lush, green forest environment.

🔹Tall, verdant trees line both sides of the path, creating a dense canopy overhead creating a tranquil natural setting.

🔵This image depicts a beautiful serene natural setting featuring a clear, turquoise-hued body of water of the Yeonhee-chun stream, visible through a frame of trees and foliage. The foreground shows a bank covered with fallen leaves and visible roots, leading down to the water's edge. Rocks are visible beneath the clear water, and the far bank is densely covered with green vegetation and trees.

🔵Another serene natural setting. This one featuring a small waterfall or cascade flowing over rocks surrounded by lush green foliage. The water flowing from a darker, calmer pool in the background, cascading down a series of rocky steps towards the foreground. Trees and various plants with vibrant green leaves frame the scene, with some branches and leaves partially obscuring the view, adding to the sense of a dense, natural environment. The overall impression is one of tranquility and natural beauty.

🔵A vibrant natural scene dominated by a cascading waterfall or rapids over a rocky, moss-covered riverbed. Lush green foliage, including trees and smaller plants, frames the water, with branches and leaves visible in the foreground and background. The water, white and foamy, tumbles over the uneven terrain, creating a sense of movement and energy within the serene natural setting. The overall impression is one of a serene and wild natural landscape.

The waterfall is located further to the right.

🔵Mr. Lucas tolong ambilkan gambar kami.

🔵Gitu je la pose kami... hahahaha 😄. I think lepas ni nak ajak isteri bincang how to pose better lah 😆.

🔵More information boards about the fauna dan flora at this place.

The next one is Cheonjeyeon Waterfall. Beza satu huruf je nama kedua-dua air terjun ini.

🔵Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is characterized by multiple tiers of water cascading over dark, moss-covered rocks and into a serene pool below.
🔵The waterfall is nestled within a lush, subtropical forest, with dense green foliage and trees framing the water on both sides, creating a natural and secluded ambiance.

A cascade of white, a watery veil,
Over ancient stones, a whispered tale.
Green leaves embrace the rushing flow,
Where river whispers, soft and low.

🔵A serene natural setting with a river flowing through a lush, green landscape. The river is flanked by dense vegetation, including trees with both verdant foliage and bare branches, suggesting a diverse ecosystem. A waterfall, though distant, is visible as white water cascading over rocks. The overall impression is one of natural beauty and tranquility, characteristic of a scenic natural attraction.

🔵Water flows over a rocky, moss-covered barrier, creating white foamy rapids that contrast with the darker, calmer water downstream.

🔵Lush, green woodland scene. Ground covered in green moss with scattered fallen leaves. Natural tranquility.

A gentle path, where lovers stroll,
Beneath an umbrella, a shared soul.
Greenery climbs, a mountain's embrace,
While vibrant Pentas light up the space.

Star-shaped blooms, in pinks and reds,
A carpet of color, where beauty spreads.
Nature's calm whispers, a tranquil scene,
A perfect moment, serene and keen.

🔵A vibrant cluster of pink Pentas flowers, also known as the Egyptian Star Cluster or Star Flower (Pentas lanceolata).
🔹Pentas lanceolata is a flowering tropical plant, often grown as an annual in cooler climates but can be a perennial in warmer zones.
🔹These plants are known for their prolific blooming, attracting pollinators like butterflies and hummingbirds, and are relatively low-maintenance.
🔹They are a popular choice for garden beds and containers due to their continuous blooming and heat tolerance.

🔹Pink Pentas flowers are characterized by their star-shaped, five-petaled appearance and are typically arranged in large, rounded clusters called corymbs.

🔵Wooden benches and chairs. Under the canopy of lush green leaves. Providing shades for tired travellers.

🔵Then we came upon this unique sculpture.
🔹It is a large, circular stone sculpture featureing two intricately carved dragon-like creatures that form the outer ring, with their bodies intertwined and heads facing outwards.
🔹Within the circular frame, there are vertical metal bars, and suspended in the center is a prominent golden, spherical object, referred to as the "Yeo Ui Ju" or "golden magic pearl" - a present from the dragon of Cheonjiyeon.

🔵The folktale about "Yeo Ui Ju".

🔵A vibrant flower bed filled with Zinnia plants, likely Zinnia angustifolia or Zinnia elegans.

🔵The specific species in the image appears to be either Zinnia angustifolia (narrowleaf zinnia) or Zinnia peruviana (Peruvian zinnia).
🔵Zinnias are known for their showy, solitary, long-stemmed flowers that come in a variety of bright colors, often resembling daisies, dahlias, or other flower types depending on the variety.

🔵Ada outdoor stage di sini.

🔵The outdoor stage at Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is used for hosting cultural events, particularly the Chilseonyeo Festival which takes place in May of even-numbered years. The festival celebrates the seven nymphs of the waterfall and includes traditional performances and activities.

🔵A stone-stepped bridge or pathway leading across the Yeonhee-chun stream.

🔵The structure in below image is a fish ladder or fish pass.
🔹A fish ladder is a type of bypass structure that allows fish to overcome obstacles like dams or weirs in a river, facilitating their migration upstream or downstream.
🔹These structures typically consist of a series of pools or steps with small drops in elevation, creating a gentle gradient that fish can navigate.
🔹The water flowing through the ladder provides a continuous path for fish movement, enabling them to access different parts of the river system for spawning, feeding, or seeking refuge.
🔹This man-made structure consists of a series of pools or steps, often with small waterfalls or ramps, that allow fish to gradually ascend or descend past barriers in a waterway.
🔹They are crucial for maintaining fish populations and biodiversity in altered river systems.

🔵A Grey Heron resting on the fish ladder.

🔵This bridge built with stepping stones, is often referred to as a "stepping stone bridge" or "stone slab bridge," because this design offers a simple and environmentally integrated way to cross shallow bodies of water.
🔵Reasons for this construction style:
🔹Cost-effectiveness and simplicity: It is generally less expensive and simpler to construct than a full-span bridge, requiring fewer materials and less complex engineering.
🔹Minimal environmental impact: This design allows water to flow freely underneath and around the stones, minimizing disruption to the natural water flow and aquatic ecosystem, unlike a solid dam or culvert.

🔹Aesthetics and natural integration: The stepping stones blend more naturally with the surrounding environment, maintaining the aesthetic appeal of a natural landscape, especially in scenic areas like the Cheonjiyeon Waterfall area where similar structures are found.
🔹Accessibility in shallow waters: It provides a practical crossing solution for shallow streams or rivers where a boat or a more elaborate bridge might be unnecessary or impractical.
🔹Historical and traditional significance: In many cultures, stepping stone bridges are a traditional form of crossing, reflecting historical building practices and a connection to nature.

🔵This image depicts the area's serene natural landscape. The foreground shows a series of stepping stones across flowing water, leading towards a calm pool surrounded by lush green trees and rocky cliffs. Two large birds, the Grey Herons, are visible on the banks of the water, adding to the tranquil scene. The name Cheonjiyeon means "the pond where heaven and earth meet," reflecting the picturesque setting.

A Great Egret on a rocky bank by the river.

🔵The presence of the grey heron added a touch of wildlife to this beautiful scene.

🔵Great Egret / bangau.

A silent sentinel, by water's edge,
The heron stands, a statue, still as stone.
With eyes that pierce the depths, a patient pledge,
For fish unseen, within its watery home.

🔵Bergambar kenangan di stepping stone bridge di Cheonjiyeon Waterfall.

🔵Sambung semula berjalan ke tempat parking kereta.

To be continued.

Till the next coming entry, inshaAllah. Meanwhile do take care.
