Assalamualaikum.
Entering the Christian section: the Chapel and interior of the Cathedral of Córdoba, or Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption.
🔵This is the Altar del Santísimo Cristo / Altar of the Holy Christ / The Crucified of the Point Altar.
🔵It was donated to the Cathedral by Antonio de Pazos y Figueroa during his episcopate, from 1583 to 1586.
🔵Antonio then showed us the Chapel of St. Teresa, which is also the Mezquita-Catedral de Cordoba's Treasury.
🔵This is where the church keeps many priceless valuables.
🔵This is Salazar Tomb designed by Hurtado Izquierdo.
🔵The remains of Don Pedro de Salazar, the 1686–1706 Bishop of Cordoba, are also interred in this chapel.
🔵He had a key role in the construction of a hospital and a convent (nun training facility) in Cordoba during his lifetime.
An octagonal space covered by a dome whose tambour is perforated by windows.
🔵This is Monstrance of Arfe, the most valuable treasure housed in the Chapel of St. Teresa.
🔵It is a part of the Eucharist, a Christian ritual.
🔵This is the painting "The conquest of Cordoba by Fernando III the Saint" by the painter Antonio Palomino.
🔵This painting together with the paintings "The Martyrdom of Saint Acisclus and Saint Victoria" and "The appearance of Saint Raphael to Father Roelas" show three fundamental scenes from the city's devotional history.

We were also shown to a nearby room that housed a large number of the church's silver objects. The ceiling and walls of this area are likewise beautifully decorated.
Exhibited are an Ivory Christ by Alonso Cano and a gold cross with precious stones donated to the Cathedral by Bishop Diego Mardones in 1620.

🔵The marble altarpiece is by Alonso Matias, the statues are made of gilded wood and are the work of Pedro Paz.
🔵It has some magnificent paintings by Antonio Palomino, representing the holy martyrs of Cordoba, Saint Flor, Saint Victoria, Saint Pelayo and Saint Acisclo.
🔵Crowned by a massive monstrance, the cathedral's main altarpiece is composed of marble.
🔵There are two stained glass windows on the sides.
🔵The five paintings, which fill the attics and lateral sections, depict five Cordovan martyrs, including two from the Roman era, Saint Victoria and Saint Acisclo, who are Córdoba's patron saints. And San Pelagio and Santa Flora, two from the Muslim era.
🔵The Assumption of the Virgin is shown on the canvas that tops the set.
🔵This is the Choir Stalls, a masterpiece by Pedro Duque Cornejo, made in the mid-eighteenth century.
🔵The Choir Stalls are made up of sixty high and forty-six low stalls, plus the Episcopal Throne.
🔵It represents the last great example of Spanish and Andalusian Baroque carving and the last great choir stalls.
🔵The highest statue on the Episcopal Throne is the statue of Archangel Raphael.
🔵On both sides of the Choir Stalls there are two identical organs.
🔵The 17th-century organs, which were restored by Patricio Furriel at the start of the 19th century, are located next to the great arch.
🔵The one on the right features an allegorical sculpture on top of a background depicting Santa Cecilia, a nineteenth-century piece by Diego Monroy y Aguilar.
🔵On both sides of the altar there are two pulpits, the work of the Frenchman Miguel Verdiguier from 1765.
Till the next coming entry, inshaAllah. Meanwhile do take care.
