YOGYAKARTA - KOTAGEDE & MASJID MATARAM

Kotagede dan Masjid Mataram, Yogyakarta. Di sini ader perkampungan Jawa. I would love nothing more than to take a stroll dalam kampung tu. Cuma kalau ikut itinerary kami hari tu, Pak Nurzaein nak bawa kami ke Masjid Mataram which is located dalam area Kotagede tu. Selalunya perjalanan ke destinasi naik kereta.

I asked Pak Nurzaein if we can walk through the kampung ke masjid Mataram tu. He said yes but it'll be a bit far. Plus he is not so sure how to get to the masjid on foot but will ask the locals. Told him that it'd be great for us to experience Kotagede up close instead of just passing through in a car. Plus I told him I'm very much into photography so being in the village would present exciting photographic opportunities, or so I had hoped.

Pak Nurzaein ok je. In fact dia kata dia lagi suka kalau ader tourist yg request cam tu.

Rumah2 di perkampungan Jawa ni dibina begitu rapat sampai kadang2 I felt claustrophobic sikit. Agak sesak dan kurang teratur which to me what made the place so unique. But one thing for sure, kampung tu sangat bersih dan tak de bau2 yg kurang menyenangkan walau pun lalu belakang2 rumah.

01

02 - Banyak bertembung dengan penjual2 makanan tepi jalan ni. Nampak macam sedap dan teringin nak try. Tapi takut nak cuba. Kot sakit perut pulak.

03 - Dia ni I think tgh tenet nih.. hehe..

04 - Perkampungan Jawa. Most times sunyi with once a while ader motorsikal lalu. I felt very calm walking there amongst the houses.

05

06 - Rumah orang kaya. Sgt besar dan panjang rumah ni. Kat dinding2 ader ukiran batu hindu. Dulu2 rumah ni diduduki org besar dan penting di kampung tu. Kira macam penghulu lah. Depan rumah ader kentung yg according to Pak Nurzaein akan dipukul dgn irama berlainan to mark different occasions like kelahiran, panggilan mesyuarat tergempar, kedatangan musuh, kematian etc.

07 - Kadang2 lorong2 ni agak narrow kena hati2 bila ader motosikal lalu. Tapi org2 situ semuanya sgt sopan santun. Smile dan beri laluan.

08 - Aku buat berani. Ader seorg mak cik tgh duduk depan pintu gerbang kecik compound rumah dia. Aku dekati dia dan senyum. Mak cik tu senyum balik. Aku beri salam dan dia jawab. Aku tanya kabar. Kira ice breaking le.. hehe. Then aku buat2 jenguk2 ke arah dalam kawasan rumah dia. Hmm... ader taman kecil dan sebuah macam gazebo besar. Aku cam act over2 le sikit..hehe. Then mak cik tu offer, 'Sila la masuk' sambil tersenyum. Hehe... itu lah yg aku harapkan. Tapi so that tak nampak obvious aku katalah, 'Eh... tak pe mak cik, tak nak ganggu'. Tapi mak cik tu insist gak. Aku pun dgn penuh malu2 dan segan masuk ke dalam compound rumah dia dgn diikuti oleh my wife dan Pak Nurzaein :).

Pak Nurzaein menerangkan dgn panjang lebar mengenai kayu penampung bumbung ni rekaan arkitek Jawa dulu2. Apparently it was not a good design.

09 - Belah kanan is the house and belah kiri tu ialah tempat tuan rumah mengajar penduduk2 kampung tu main alat2 music tradisional jawa.

10 - Masa kami masuk, ketua rumah keluar sambut kami. Aku siap mintak izin ambik gambar. Maklum la ni kan rumah orang. Dia kata dia baru sahaja habis mengajar about half hour ago. Alamak! Ruginya. Lagi kecewa bila dia kata yg masa sesi belajar tu aku boleh bebas ambik gambar. Aduhh!!!

13

14 - Rata2 rumah2 kat sana macam ni... ader pintu gerbang, then dalam ader compound kecik, then rumah. So nice and private.

15 - Friendly villager.

16

17 - Pak cik ni tgh duduk2 ambik angin petang. So peaceful.

18 - Cahaya petang yg indah.

19 - At a very old part of the neighbourhood.

20 - How can I not take a shot of this wonderful wooden door!

21

22 - Rumah Joglo - sebuah rumah adat.

23 - Lorong2 sempit.Yg bersih.

24 - Compound rumah - bersih macam baru kena sapu.

25 - Dinding2 yg tinggi dgn bumbung/awning yg rapat2.

26 - Lagi compound rumah org. Diaorg ni memang jaga betul rumah dan kawasan.

27

28

29 - Salah satu lorong2 yg sempit. Rasanya motorsikal pun tak lepas.

30

31 - Antara sebab kenapa aku ingin sgt nak jln2 through the kampung.

32 - Dpt tengok kegiatan org kampung.

33 - Bro2 yg tgh lepaking. Semua sporting dan smile :)

34 - Baru lepas accident kot.

35 - Haaa... belakang tu la dinding masjid Mataram. Dibina sedemikian kerana satu masa dulu dinding itu berfungsi sebagai kubu pertahanan.

36

37

38

39 - Dinding luar masjid Mataram. Ader pengaruh senibina hindu.

40

41 - Kerajaan Mataram pernah perintah Yogyakarta 2 kali. First time masa kerajaan Mataram tu beragama hindu. 2nd time as a Muslim government. We were told that this Masjid Mataram was the first masjid yg dibina oleh kerajaan Mataram Islam yg sengaja ader senibina hindu untuk menarik lebih ramai masuk Islam.

42 - Jambatan kecik kat depan pintu masuk masjid [yg belah kiri tu] adalah dulu2 untuk tempat cuci kaki sebelum masuk masjid.

43 - A very old looking lamp. Wonder how old it was.

44

45 - That's part of the original building built centuries ago. Nice idea me think to leave that part exposed.

46 - Mihrab dan Mimbar Masjid Mataram.

47 - Upon closer look, heran la Mimbar tu ader ukiran bentuk binatang/dragon.

48 - Pandangan luar dari dinding masjid Mataram.

49 - Adik kecil kat depan pintu berukir Masjid Mataram.

50 - Hmm... mesti sedap.... alas cannot lor....

51 - So wonderfully colorful!

52 - The people of Kotagede.

53

54

55

56

57 - Siap mintak izin kat mak cik tuan kedai ni untuk shoot kambing panggang ni :)

58 - Lalu berkayuh dan those mini cars akan terumbang ambing. Also got loud happy music. Seronok le baby tu kan :)

59 - Byk fruitsellers.

60 - And food peddlers.

61 - Letih kot. Memang it was quite hot that day.

62 - Kenapa ya tetiba kat sini ader ramai org berkumpul.

63 - Oooo.. rupanya ader mini train complete with track for toddlers! Super cute!

64

65 - I just love this shot... [tears] :)

    1. Hmmm... actually itinerary kami sebut KotaGede je. Bila sampai sana Pak Nurzaein asked if we'd like to see the old masjid. Of course la we agreed. Me especially excited when he said 'yes' when I suggested that we walked :)

      3. Siomay tu is like steamed fish dumpling + sayur + kuah kacang :). Tau tak apa Batagor tu? It is Bakso Tahu Goreng.. hehe

      6. Yes, my thoughts exactly. I wonder what's it like inside.

      8. A'ha... lain kali mesti cuba. I buat berani je. Lagi pun ader Pak Nurzaein, so berani la kan.. hehe. Also kena wayang sikit. Acting a bit lah. I kan, kalau nak try2 cam ni, I always think, 'So what's the worst that could happen?'. Habis2 pun she'd say 'no'.

      10. Oh doc! Don't say it. I am still a bit sore about missing the opportunity lah.. hehe. Yeah, surely as you so aptly described 'tears'.

I thought the doors are just, you know, grand!

      51. I almost did! But I just uttered a 'Yay! je. Control gitu.. hehe.

      59. Ya, betul tu doc.

      63. They definitely are. I mean, I totally did not expect to see something like that there :)

  2. begitulah indahnya kehidupan kampung. worth the long walk to see the living village. and best of all when it is well maintained, crowded yet clean. hope the seni that surrounds them is passed down to the younger generations.
