CEBU, PHILIPPINES - DAY 04 - PART 04 - BOHOL TARSIER CONSERVATION AREA & BILAR & LOBOC FOREST

Let's have a closer look shall we.

Conservation Status: Endangered.
Biggest Threat: Habitat Loss.
Maka elok la diadakan sanctuary macam ini.
Average litter size: 1. Cuma seekor je.

Beginilah comelnya monyet tarsier ni. Tingginya cuma antara 9 cm hingga 16 cm sahaja.

Tarsier ada pada wang kertas 200 Peso.

Berapa ekor monyet tarsier can you see in this photo? 😊

Hujan sedang renyai jadi kami diberikan payung seorang satu. Suasana cukup nyaman sekali dalam hutan ni masa tu.

Yes, visitors must remain absolutely silent. And to ensure that the conservation dah stationed their guides at places di mana monyet-monyet comel tu tengah tidur.

Good idea la sebab if it was up to us, memang kami tak akan nampak sebab monyet tu kecik sungguh.

The Philippine tarsier, as its name suggests, is endemic to the Philippine archipelago. Its populations are generally found in the southeastern part of the archipelago. Established populations are present primarily on the islands of Bohol, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao. It has also been found on various isolated islands within its known range, such as Maripipi Island, Siargao Island, Basilan Island and Dinagat Island. - Wikipedia

And of course not a beep! And kami tak lama di sini. Cuma a few minutes sahaja.
The Philippine tarsier is a shy, nocturnal animal that leads a mostly hidden life. During the day, it sleeps in dark hollows close to the ground, near tree trunks and shrubs deep in the impenetrable bushes and forests. It becomes active only at night; with its keen sight and ability to manoeuvre around trees, it is able to avoid humans. - Wikipedia

And definitely no flash. Also we are forbidden to go any closer. Bagus la, if not kesian la monyet ni akan terganggu.
It is arboreal, habitually clinging vertically to trees and capable of leaping from branch to branch. The Philippine tarsier is solitary. However, populations and individuals have been found to have either monogamous or polygamous mating patterns. - Wikipedia

Then kami ditunjukkan lagi seekor.

Alaahaiiii.. comelnyaaaa.... 😍.
While both male and female tarsiers are solitary animals, they cross each other's paths under the cover of nightfall as they hunt for prey. They travel up to 1.5 km across the forest and the optimal area is more than 6 ha. - Wikipedia

Masa jalan-jalan dalan sanctuary pelawat boleh di pondok-pondok yang disediakan, to rest or just simply enjoy the beautiful forest.

Waaa... nampak lagi seekor!

Its habitat also includes tropical rainforest with dense vegetation and trees that offer it protection such as tall grasses, bushes, and bamboo shoots. It prefers dense, low-level vegetation in secondary forests, with perching sites averaging 2 m above the ground. - Wikipedia

Yang seekor ni nampak macam tengah tidur tapi mata terbuka.. hehe. Comelnyaaa... Kesian pulak rasanya.
Besides human hunters, feral cats banished from nearby communities are the species' main predators, though some large birds are known to prey on it, as well. Because of its nocturnal and arboreal habits, the Philippine tarsier is most likely to fall prey to owls, or to small carnivores which it can encounter in its canopy homes. - Wikipedia

And another one!

Yang ini tak nampak mukanya, mengadap the other way.

Bulat badannya.. hehe. Ekor macam ekor tikus.

Monyet ni nampak cozy je nestled among the lush green. Rasa guilty pulak ganggu dia. Tapi jarak kami jauh. And according to the guide kami tak ganggu dan monyet tu tak rasa threatened sebab kalau dia rasa tergugat, mesti dia dah cabut lari.

Haa.. yang ini tak tidur.

Bulat buntang je mata dia.. hehe.
Like all tarsiers, the Philippine tarsier's eyes are fixed in its skull; they cannot move in their sockets. Instead, a special adaptation in the neck allows its round head to be rotated 180°. Their eyes are disproportionately large, having the largest eye-to-body size ratio of all mammals. These huge eyes provide this nocturnal animal with excellent night vision. In bright light, the tarsier's eyes can constrict until the pupil appears to be only a thin spot. In low light or darkness, the pupil can dilate and fill up almost the entire eye. The large membranous ears are mobile, appearing to be almost constantly moving, allowing the tarsier to hear any movement. - Wikipedia

So comel and adorable sangat!
The Philippine tarsier has thin, rough fur which is colored gray to dark brown. The narrow tail, usually used for balance, is bald except for a tuft of hair at the end, and is about twice the body length. Its elongated "tarsus", or ankle bone, which gives the tarsier its name, allows it to jump at least 3 m from tree to tree. Its long digits are tipped with rounded pads that allow it to cling easily to trees and to grip almost any surface. The thumb is not truly opposable, but the first toe is. All of the digits have flattened nails, except for the second and third toes, which have sharp claws specialized for grooming. - Wikipedia

The Philippine tarsier is primarily insectivorous, its diet consists of insects, spiders, small crustaceans, and small vertebrates such as small lizards and birds. It preys on live insects, particularly crickets and grasshoppers. Upon seizing its prey, the tarsier carries it to its mouth using both hands. - Wikipedia

Oh hello sweety. Sorry ganggu you tidur. Kan tarsier ni nocturnal.

Nampak macam senyum pulak. Boleh ke monyet tarsier senyum.. hehe.

Anyway, we were there for only a few minutes.

Ok dah jom move on. Ini souvenir shop.

Lepas spent time di Bohol Tarsier Conservation Area, on the way to lunch kami stop sekejap di Bilar & Loboc Forest.

Park van tepi jalan untuk bergambar kejap.. hehe. Cantik hutan man-made ni.

Foto yang menggambarkan how tall and beautiful this forest is.

Mesti la ada group photo.. hehe.

Bersama Mr. Padre.
